Ten things on my mind as Rays head to Spring Training?

1. Is Matt Moore for real?
From what we saw of Mr. Moore at the end of last year, it’s hard to believe that the Rays couldn’t find a place for him earlier in the season. The optimist in me says that we’re getting ready to see a very special rookie campaign. The pessimist says nothing is ever that dominance is never that simple and some speed bumps may show up along the way.

2. How many TV’s will I destroy throwing remote controls after a strikeout? The Rays have a lot more power this year, but that comes at a price. There are a lot of strikeouts to be had in this lineup. If you’re like me and get frustrated by strikeouts at the most inopportune times, than I suspect our big screens could be in danger from flying remote controls (think Bossman looking at strike three with the bases loaded).

3. Will DJ Kitty nudge Raymond out and take over as Rays sole mascot? I can’t imagine the Rays can go too far carrying two mascots on the roster. There can be only one and early observation suggests that DJ Kitty is gaining a cult following that may be difficult for Raymond to over come. Let’s just hope Raymond doesn’t end his career racing Pepsi and Aquafina.

4. Is the Reid Brignac era over? Of course I use the phrase “Reid Brignac era” loosely. The era is mostly defined by wild swings out of the zone along with a complete inability to get on base. Some have suggested there isn’t a roster spot on the Rays for him. I’ll believe that when I get the official release.

5. Is BJ Upton ready for a breakout season? This is a question I’ve seemingly asked every year since 2008. Once we got a taste of Bossman’s true potential in the 2008 playoffs, it’s hard to expect anything less from him. However, I’d like to suggest that I’ve set the bar pretty high for this guy and I’d like to see him mash in his final games as a Ray.

6. Will Scotty Kazmir find a team? I hope so. I’m pretty sure the Rays don’t have any use for their former star left hander, but I’d still like to see him get a shot somewhere. He’s still pretty young.

7. Are the Rays really the team to beat in the AL East? I’m with Andrew Friedman, the Yankees and Red Sox are still two pretty good teams. Outside of September, the Red Sox were one of the most dominate teams in baseball last year. I suspect they may have a chip on their shoulder going into 2012. As for the Yankees, they’re still the Yankees. While we love to hate them, we have to respect their talent. And let’s not forget, Mr. ARod sought treatment from a German doctor in the off-season *and* is dating some sort of WWE lady. That adds up to a possible resurgence. We’ll have to keep a close eye on him.

8. Rodney or Farnsworth? Neither will ever replace MFIKY. Let’s just hope they get some High Leverage outs and make us all feel a little bit calmer nursing a small lead into late innings.

9. Will leaving the Trop after the game be the same without Rich Herrara to make us feel better? I know that he took a lot of heat for his over homerism, but I really did enjoy his “glass half full” banter with the callers on the way out of the Trop parking lot. How many times did he easily dismiss drunk callers trying to manage their team from the couch after a six-pack? For me, Rich always made the ride home a little more pleasant.

10. Will writing posts like this make Opening Day get here any faster? Probably not. First week of Spring Training is usually pretty interesting. After that, it becomes an uneventful, slow crawl toward Opening Day. I can’t wait. :)

In this *special* edition of Rays Rev Radio, Matty and Mike discuss the implications of big game 162.  Who would've guessed in April that the season could boil down to games 162 & 163. It's truly a great time to be a Rays fan. The boys speculate on what could happen the next couple of days and how we go here. Also, hear how they blame the fat cat New Yorkers looking down from their ivory towers for the attendance troubles in St. Petersburg. Get ready! Tonight's the night, do or die. Game 162!!!!!!!!!!

In this week's edition of the Rays Rev Radio, the boys spend most of the podcast waiting for the neverending Yankees Red Sox game to end. While waiting, Matty and Mike discuss the Bucs, Starship5, the Rays playoff chances, the Red Sox, and the Yankees.

We also welcomed Beau Zimmer, the grandson of Don Zimmer to talk about his thoughts on the Yankees, Red Sox, and Rays.
All in all, we're really excited that the Rays are playing some meaningful baseball in September and we've seen some exciting moments this year no matter how it turns out. Oh, and as soon as we ended the podcast Jacoby Ellsbury put the Red Sox on top with a 3 run dinger. Dang.
